Going Global:
Managing Sony’s International Streaming Rollout
The same great shows, now on digital.
Hollywood’s “Streaming Wars” frenzy became an industry-wide panic as leadership from the major studios tried to figure out their place in a cord-cutting future. Sony’s Pictures Networks’ stakeholders from all over the world were coming into our Los Angeles office asking how to meet their audiences where they now watch their favorite shows - mobile devices and Smart TVs. Amazon, Netflix and regional competitors had already begun launching streaming services for global markets - where were we in the process?
As compared to Netflix and Amazon, Sony has a unique advantage in its history as a reputable Network TV brand with international audiences. With that brand equity and regional infrastructure already in place, Sony’s Digital Product Group (DPG) leveraged the pre-existing Crackle streaming platform to stand up versions for each Sony Network’s regional market. My role as Sony DPG’s International Product Manager focused on enhancements, integrations and localization efforts for each of these product rollouts.
